I am interested in why people choose to become artists. Choosing to walk down this unique path myself, I am always eager to hear other artists share their stories.

As an artist, I use my hands as tools to create. My professor once told me that The Lord, who is the Ultimate Creator, gave us hands in order to glorify Him; therefore it is our duty and responsibility to create.

Creating with our hands can mean many things. Whether this begins as building a tower in the dirt when one is a young child or continues as expressing ones emotions through oil paint in art school, each of these techniques derives from a similar place of self-expression that intrigues me.

When artists are working, their hands often get messy. I find that the hands of the artist are often just as beautiful as their work. An artist’s hands represent a certain amount of time, love, and care that is put into their work. The artist’s hands are reaching out, open towards the viewer. Ready to give, and also to receive.
